24th June, 2011 (5th) Water Technology Forum, co-sponsored by ChinaWater.Net/ ChinaSolidWasteNet, School of Environment of Tsinghua University, Water Industry Branch of China Civil Engineering Society, has been successfully held at Beijing Xindadu Hotel.

This forum is to make further interpretation on the topic of where water technology will go. There are 6 parts for this conference, namely, technological policies and tendency, water supply technologies and application cases, urban water environment treatment technology and application cases, seawater desalination, as well as industrial wastewater technologies and application cases, 2010-2011 Award for Devices of Most Satisfied for Water Users and Chief Engineer Forum.

On this Forum, the experts and engineers shared their idea with the participants. Relating water pollution, Prof. WANG Hongchen, Deputy Dean of Environmental Department of Renmin University, pointed that heavier pollution is closely related to the population of certain area, therefore, a long-term water price standards should be set to provide evidence to water environment protection and building.

On the other hand, “the regulation must be tailored to the status of current technology and development level, otherwise, the standards are only standards with nonsense”, said Mr. DAI Xiaohu, Director of National Urban Pollution Control Engineering Center, Tongji University.

While referring to wastewater issues, Prof. CHEN Jining, Executive Deputy President of Tsinghua University, pointed that rapid urbanization and highly population concentration bring great pressure to water supply in urban area, therefore, wastewater treatment means greatly important than ever before.

According to Prof. LIU Wenjun from School of Environment of Tsinghua University, tap water quality must reach new defined 106 standards, on the other hand, increasing water pollution requires to accommodate the productivity of existed water plants where Ozone Activated Carbon would be applied.

Facing increasing water shortage crisis, seawater desalination as well has come into the vision of public, accordingly, Mr. GAO Congjie, Member of Chinese Academy of Engineering, pointed that desalination technologies has witnessed a development in China, but we still has a long way to go.

Above all, during the Forum, the participants shared their ideas & experiences and involved into heatedly discussed on water-related technologies, to address the new problems and new demand on quality of water, treated wastewater, as well as desalinated seawater.
